Seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccination
Influenza (flu) vaccine is given in the fall, starting in late August, to children 6 months and older. Children who are younger than 9 years old require two doses at a 1 month interval, if this is the first time they have gotten the flu shot.
The vaccines are linked to its information statement for viewing and printing (free PDF viewer required).
There are two types of influenza vaccine:
|Shot||Inactivated (killed) vaccine, or the "flu shot" is given by injection into the muscle.|
|Nasal spray||Live, attenuated (weakened) influenza vaccine is sprayed into the nostrils. Also known as FluMist|
